Baja California Sur, that natural paradise that shines in Mexico, has taken a bold step in protecting its invaluable biodiversity, by adding two vital links to its chain of Protected Natural Areas (PNA). And it does so with the firm determination to preserve its most precious treasures.

In Baja California Sur, two new natural gems have been added to the list of Protected Natural Areas! A salute to biodiversity receives the Nopoló National Park, extensive in 2,076 hectares, and the majestic Loreto II National Park, extended in 6,217 hectares.

These areas represent a safe haven for diverse ecosystems and species, from golden sand beaches to the mysterious mangroves, in addition to being a refuge for sea turtles that choose their beaches to nest. As if that were not enough, these parks are essential migratory routes for birds and pollinator species, in addition to serving as biological corridors that connect and preserve fragments of the natural environment.

With this addition, the total number of Protected Natural Areas under federal jurisdiction in Mexico rises to the notable number of 200, covering a vast area of around 17,918 hectares. Among them, six National Parks and seven Flora and Fauna Protection Areas stand out, each one weaving a unique biological and conservation story.

The heroes behind this achievement are Semarnat (Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources) and Conanp (National Commission of Protected Natural Areas). Their tireless efforts are reflected in the safeguarding of these crucial ecosystems, ensuring the protection of essential places such as water reservoirs, forests and jungles. The latter, silent guardians of river regulation, a vital function for the well-being of those who call these lands home.

The news shines in the Official Gazette of the Federation, where 13 decrees celebrate the creation of ANP in six states of Mexico. All this is possible thanks to the synchronized collaboration between Semarnat and the Conanp administration.
