Josefina Rodríguez Zamora promotes community and social tourism in Baja California

The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, presented programs to strengthen tourism in indigenous communities and promote social tourism in the state.

In the framework of the celebration of Tourist Market 2025 in Baja California, Mexico's Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodriguez Zamora, accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, began a working tour of the state, to promote specific actions that strengthen tourism in the state.

Accompanied by Rebeca Vega Arriola, Secretary of Social Inclusion and Gender Equality, and by Elías Espinoza Álvarez, representative of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples in Baja California, the head of the Ministry of Tourism led the presentation of the Social Tourism Program “Corazones Viajeros” and the Community Tourism Program for Baja California.

In the vicinity of the Siñaw Kuatay Ecotourism Center, a project led by indigenous Kumiai women, Rodríguez Zamora said that these programs reaffirm the commitment and support of the state and federal government to priority attention groups, as well as stressing the importance of guaranteeing the right to tourism and the inclusion of all people in tourism activities.

Within this framework, the Baja California Indigenous-Based Community Tourism program was presented, developed jointly by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico and the state Ministry of Tourism, which aims to develop and implement a community tourism program that incorporates the native communities of this state.

The above aims to establish the conditions and requirements for the integration of indigenous communities into formal tourism; design strategies and actions to improve community organization with a sustainable approach; support the provision of comprehensive tourism services that promote authentic experiences for visitors and foster inclusion and gender equality in community tourism.

On the other hand, the “Corazones Viajeros” program, which in 2024 with an investment of 6 million pesos managed to benefit 7 thousand people, seeks to promote the state's tourism heritage, as well as increase the percentage of occupancy and tourist consumption in developing destinations.

The head of Mexico's Tourism and the state's Tourism Secretary held a working meeting at Rancho La Puerta, in Tecate, in order to present an action plan to strengthen Health and Wellness Tourism, which will contribute to the state's image as a benchmark in high-quality medical care, offering accessible and safe services that attract national and international patients.

At the meeting, which was also attended by Román Cota Muñoz, municipal president of Tecate, Osvaldo Nieto, director of Public Relations of Rancho La Puerta, Sarah Brightwood and Eliezer Quiñones, founders of the ranch, the importance of coordination between the three levels of government and the participation of the private sector to achieve the completion of this important project was highlighted.

The head of the Baja California Tourism Secretariat, Miguel Aguíñiga, highlighted the benefits that health and wellness tourism provides to the state, which represented an expenditure of more than 2022 million pesos in 29, thanks to the implementation of the State Tourism Registry, the certification agreements, the Agile Vehicular Crossing program and the Cross Border Express, the only binational bridge in the world that connects Mexico with an international airport terminal in the United States that exceeds 4 million users annually.

On the other hand, Secretary Rodríguez Zamora swore in the Committee of the Magical Town of Tecate and supervised the tasks carried out in this destination with the implementation of the Magical Routes of Color program that seeks to improve and dignify its public spaces.

In turn, and as part of the joint work agenda within the framework of the celebration of the Tianguis Turístico 2025, the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, saidHe held a working meeting with members of the Northwest Hotel Association, where actions were proposed to foster an environment of cooperation to make Baja California a more attractive and competitive tourist destination.
