Acapulco, a tourist destination torn between beauty and adversity. The recent onslaught of hurricanes Otis and John have left deep scars on this iconic port, putting its economic and social recovery at risk.

A recent diagnosis by the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur) reveals the extent of the damage: hundreds of hotels have suffered million-dollar losses in infrastructure, furniture and equipment.

Flooded rooms, collapsed roofs and eroded beaches are just some of the consequences of these natural phenomena.

The Diamante, La Dorada and Pie de la Cuesta areas, the most touristic areas of Acapulco, have been the most affected.

Many establishments have had to close temporarily, generating significant job losses and directly affecting thousands of families who depend on tourism.

A call for unity

In the face of this crisis, Acapulco's tourism sector has joined forces to request support from the federal government.

The declaration of a natural disaster area is essential to speed up reconstruction processes and channel the resources needed for recovery.

"Acapulco needs all of us," said Alejandro Martínez Sidney, president of Canaco Acapulco. "Tourism is our main source of income and we must work together to move forward."

Recovery efforts underway

Despite the challenges, the resilience of the people of Acapulco is evident. Many hotels have begun rehabilitation work and are expected to reopen in the coming months. However, the road to recovery will be long and complex.
